RochesterDeservesBetter.

They watch parents They censure dissent They delete debate Now: No Homecoming Queen

The people running Rochester Community Schools have spent years going after parents who ask questions. Here's the record, with sources, so you can check every word.

Two Kings.
No Queen.

Rochester Adams families noticed something missing at Homecoming this fall: there was no Homecoming Queen. A Rochester mom and precinct delegate posted two sentences about it.

Within a day, an anonymous Facebook page that covers RCS politics had screenshotted her words, put them next to other people's comments she never wrote, and accused her of "bullying children." Parents who pushed back say their comments were deleted and they were blocked.

This is not about any student. Every student on that court deserves respect. It's about why a long-standing tradition quietly disappeared, and the adults who attack any parent who asks.

What she actually said

“Bring back crowning Homecoming King and Queen. This is really sad for our girls.”

That's it. That's the whole “attack.”

It Didn't Start
With Homecoming.

Every item comes from court records, news coverage, or the district's own statements. Sources are under each entry.

  1. A mom criticizes COVID closures. She loses her job.

Elena Dinverno, an RCS parent who pushed for in-person school, was fired after the district's deputy superintendent called her employer. The district acknowledged the call was made.

  2. “We monitor.”

Her lawsuit revealed the district tracked parents' social media and compiled dossiers listing critics' employers. In a deposition, the district's spokeswoman put it plainly: “We monitor.” That same official still runs district communications today.

  3. Taxpayers pay nearly $190,000.

RCS settled: $116,209 to the parent and $72,540 to her attorney. The agreement barred both sides from talking about it.

  4. The superintendent resigns.

Superintendent Robert Shaner, who a deposition said guided officials to monitor community discussion online, resigned “effective immediately” after an unexplained leave.

  5. A trustee writes an op-ed. The board censures her.

Trustee Carol Beth Litkouhi wrote in The Detroit News about the tax impact of a proposed countywide school millage. The board majority voted 5–2 to censure her and pull her off every committee for a year, calling the op-ed “harmful to the reputation of the District.”

  6. She sues on First Amendment grounds.

With the Mackinac Center Legal Foundation, Litkouhi sued, arguing the board's speech bylaw is unconstitutionally broad. Days after being named in the suit, the board president who backed the censure announced her resignation.

  7. The same majority hand-picks Sherry Wynn Perdue.

To fill the empty seat, the board appointed Sherry Wynn Perdue on a 4–2 vote. The two no votes were the same two trustees who opposed the censure. Now Perdue wants a full six-year term.

  8. Homecoming, and the deleted posts.

A mom's two sentences about Homecoming get her branded a bully. Parents who disagree online say they're deleted and blocked. Different year, same playbook: go after the parent instead of answering the question.
